AIRFRESH: Air pollution removal by urban forests for a better human well-being

First meetings with local stakeholders

Two co-design workshops were organized by ARGANS in Aix-en-Provence (France) and by IRET-CNR in Florence (Italy) on 06 and 11 November 2020, respectively, with representatives from municipality involved in the implementation of both test areas, and key stakeholders (regional council, conurbation).

The open 2-way interactive discussion allowed cross-fertilization of ideas. The local stakeholders informed project partners of their expectations and provided a list of parameters and characteristics to be included for tree selection.

Based on their requirements, project partners started to rank the plant species according to their: characteristics; effectiveness in removing air pollutants; CO2 sequestration potential; tolerance to drought, to pest and disease; and pollen allergenicity. This list will be released to the municipality by June 2021.

Face-to-face and virtual meeting in Aix-en-Provence on 6 November 2020 with representatives from municipality, conurbation, regional council, and Dr Pierre Sicard (ARGANS).

Face-to-face meeting in Florence on 11 November 2020 between the Vice Mayor Alessia Bettini and Dr Elena Paoletti (CNR).
